Hand over open work

Identify inspections, unresolved reports and tasks awaiting parts. Each needs its current position, next action and receiving owner.

“Previously serviced” is insufficient. The new team needs to know what was verified and what still needs a decision, distinguishing completed work from later recommendations.

Check documentation and materials

Appropriate documents and information about parts prepared for planned work should follow the equipment. Stock and attachments can remain at the original site despite a changed machine address.

Provide history access rather than creating a fresh, empty record for the new plant. Earlier events still matter for subsequent repairs.

Confirm the schedule transfer

Dates, assignees and notifications need to reflect new responsibilities. A joint review of upcoming work helps both teams understand the handover.

For an operations director, the aim is maintenance continuity between locations. CMMS retains technical context and EAM the wider asset history. Relocation is organisationally complete when the receiving team knows which work it must continue and where the supporting information can be found.
