Distinguish picking an order from creating a kit
Collecting separate products for one parcel does not necessarily create a new inventory item. Creating a kit changes how stock is represented according to an agreed composition.
Decide whether kits are assembled in advance or for specific orders. These options affect component availability and warehouse work differently.
Composition must match actual use
Specify products, quantities and units. Where components have batches, retain their connection with the finished kit to the extent required by the process.
A missing element should not automatically be replaced with a similar item. Composition changes need agreement and a record showing what was actually prepared.
Check the resulting stock
Verify remaining components and finished-kit quantities. Interrupted work also needs a clear state: items laid out on a table should not simultaneously appear freely available.
For a warehouse manager, the concern is avoiding two promises against the same quantity. WMS can support kit assembly and disassembly. Define when the kit comes into existence and how stock changes, rather than treating it only as an additional sales description.
