Technical condition and availability

Condition describes the equipment itself; availability describes whether it can be used at a particular time. The distinction matters for work planning and for people issuing equipment.

An item awaiting inspection should not appear as a confirmed working resource. Similarly, a reservation does not necessarily indicate a fault or a change of ownership.

Status explains the handling stage

For a repair, it helps to distinguish a reported fault, dispatch to the service provider and the device's return. Each stage answers a different question and may involve a different person.

Change dates reveal cases that have stalled. If equipment stays unavailable, its custodian can check whether it is still awaiting repair or whether the record simply needs updating.

A benefit for users and purchasing

Clear statuses help the business understand what it can actually use. They reduce fruitless searches and support checks before another purchase. Their value depends on shared definitions and updates after real events.
