Why should ownership be visible?
An ownership field helps teams recognise equipment during a count and decide what to investigate. A supplier's demonstration device should not automatically become an additional item in the company's own asset list.
A link to an agreement or handover document helps explain why the equipment is being used and whom to contact about its status.
The owner and the user are different relationships
The employee using a device does not necessarily represent the organisation that owns it. Recording those relationships separately supports contact, location checks and the end of an assignment.
Where equipment has both a partner's identifier and an internal number, connecting them helps avoid mistakes during collection or repair.
What does a shared register provide?
An operational register can show equipment available within the business while distinguishing ownership. Users can locate the item they need, and accounting teams have information to assess its treatment. A return history remains available after the relationship has ended.
