Establish scope before checking the total
Define the period, participating customers and products, and adjustment treatment. Know which date assigns a transaction to settlement and where the source turnover comes from.
Matching totals can hide different underlying transactions. Validation should therefore extend beyond one summary amount.
Check identifiers and units
Customers and products must connect reliably with the promotion scope. Similar names are weak keys, particularly for branches and product variants.
For quantity conditions, establish the unit. Cartons and pieces cannot enter one threshold without an agreed conversion. Identify unmatched records rather than silently omitting them from the result.
Control repeat imports
A corrected file may contain transactions already loaded. Define whether data is replaced or appended and how duplication is checked before recalculation.
For IT and settlement teams, the shared objective is a reproducible result. Trade Marketing can use imported sales figures, but reliability depends on matching data to the campaign rule rather than merely receiving an import-complete message. The source, selection and handling of changes should remain understandable after the person performing the import has finished.
