Models support selection; units retain history
A request may focus on specifications and quantity. Physical handover needs a specific device identity so that the later return concerns the same equipment.
This prevents condition or shortage information being transferred accidentally between units. It does not require duplicating the entire model description for every item.
Define when substitution is acceptable
Similar appearance does not always mean interchangeability. Specifications, accessories and task requirements can matter. The issuer needs to know when another unit can be selected and when agreement is necessary.
If the issued unit changes, the reservation should not remain associated with an item that stayed in the store.
Recognise the same unit at return
Recording that one device of a type came back is insufficient. Connect the return with the original issue and retain completeness and condition information.
This is useful to supervisors whose teams share many units of one model. EAM provides equipment identification; Tools Management uses it for particular reservations and handovers. They share a data foundation while serving different day-to-day purposes.
