Agree the combination rule before launch
Campaigns may be mutually exclusive or work together under specified conditions. Define how the applicable option is selected and whether one benefit affects another.
Shared validity dates are insufficient. Product, customer, transaction scope and calculation base also matter.
Sequence can change the result
A discount on an individual price can differ from one calculated on the base price. A bonus can likewise use different definitions of eligible turnover.
The rule should make the path from input data to the final calculation understandable. Test typical transactions and boundary cases before the terms cover the entire sales period.
Exceptions need a record
If a particular customer has an agreed exception, retain its scope, approval and validity period. An oral message to one salesperson does not ensure the settlement team applies the same rule.
For a sales manager, this supports control over the actual cost of the relationship. Trade Marketing brings different terms into a calculation. Their interaction must be defined first, rather than automatically adding every benefit found against the customer.
