Several perspectives on the same asset

Technical staff use a workstation code, accounting uses an asset record number, and operators use a familiar shop-floor name. Linking these descriptions makes the equipment easier to identify during repairs and inventory checks.

Replacements are particularly important. A workstation can keep its name even when a different individual machine is installed.

Where does current information help?

When equipment moves, capacity is planned or an item is absent from the production floor. Its history can establish whether it went to another building, a repair service or a storage area.

An inventory can also reveal unused equipment or items requiring assessment. This information should lead to follow-up actions with named owners.

EAM supports a shared view of equipment

Operational records connect a physical item to the information different departments need. They do not replace specialist technical assessments or accounting. They help departments work with the same machine's history instead of maintaining unrelated versions.

This information is particularly useful to the plant's accounting team. It connects documents to the right individual machine when a shop-floor workstation name remains unchanged after replacement.
