Connect quantity with application
Useful details include material, unit and the job or project. Where equipment matters, a shared reference connects materials with its use.
Every transaction need not contain every possible field. Select information needed for decisions rather than collecting detail without an intended use.
Separate issue from actual consumption
Some material may return or stay with the team for another task. Define when and how its purpose is updated.
Without this rule, a project may look more expensive because stock collected for it was used elsewhere. Accurate warehouse quantity does not automatically produce accurate job cost allocation.
Compare similar circumstances
Different tasks, materials and workload can justify different consumption. Comparisons should prompt investigation rather than automatically assess an individual from quantity alone.
This is particularly useful to finance and project managers. Tools Management retains equipment use and WMS the material quantities. Their connection explains cost in the context of work rather than merely summing collections by recipient. It also makes later corrections understandable when quantities are returned or reassigned to a different task.
