What does a QR code contain?

The code can carry an identifier or a link to a record. Either way, it needs a reliable connection to the individual item. Changing its user does not necessarily require a new label if current information stays in the record.

Reading a code reduces the need to type a number. What happens next depends on the application: opening an equipment page does not, by itself, record an inventory result.

Where is this approach convenient?

Accessible computers, printers and office equipment are good places to test it. The label must be readable and the camera easy to position. Lighting and reflective surfaces affect day-to-day use.

The phones used by the team also need checking. Having a camera does not mean every device will be equally convenient.

From a scan to useful information

The main benefit is connecting an item to its data and a recorded event. The user can find the right record faster, and the result can feed into a comparison with asset records. The usefulness of a mobile solution depends on the whole task.

The inventory organiser also needs to distinguish a confirmed read from an unresolved item. The team should know what to record when a code is unreadable or the record does not match the equipment found.
