Separate quantity, location and readiness
Goods may be physically inside the warehouse without being ready to pick. They may be awaiting inspection, batch identification or unpacking. Distinguish these situations rather than presenting the entire received quantity as equally available.
This does not mean every delivery needs an elaborate procedure. The aim is for the information shown to the picker to reflect the actual situation.
Who confirms putaway?
Define the point when the movement is complete: the correct product and quantity have reached the stated location. A system suggestion is not evidence that the task was performed.
If the operator uses a different location, the record needs the actual address. Otherwise, the warehouse has two versions of the location: intended and real.
Review what remains in receiving
Regularly check deliveries that have not moved to the next stage. Each should have a clear reason for waiting and someone responsible for the next action.
This is useful to a shift supervisor: a list of unresolved deliveries reveals more than the total number of items received. It helps distinguish a temporary workload from work that is repeatedly postponed. WMS connects receipt and location, but the team still needs a clear rule for confirming putaway.
