Separate the two confirmations
Dispatching a quantity does not prove the same amount arrived. Use a shared transfer reference, product identity and separately confirmed quantities at each end.
Where batch or handling-unit identity matters, preserve the link through the journey rather than reconstructing it after unloading.
Define the in-transit view
Stock travelling between sites is not ordinary shelf availability at either warehouse. Its existence and the person responsible for the next confirmation should nevertheless remain visible.
Agree the presentation with document flow and the stock source. The important results are avoiding duplicate availability and retaining visibility of open transfers.
Investigate receipt differences
When fewer items arrive than were sent, do not silently adjust both records to one figure. Keep the actual receipt and assign investigation of the remainder.
For an operations manager, open transfers and discrepancies are useful views. WMS connects movements between locations. Reliability comes from two actual confirmations and an understandable process for the journey between them, including who follows up an overdue receipt and how its outcome is retained.
