Define scope and comparison time

Location, product and batch should be unambiguous. Establish which recorded state the count refers to and how receipts and picks are handled during verification.

Otherwise, a correct physical count can produce a false discrepancy. One person counts before issue while the report already includes the later movement.

Select locations for a reason

Prior discrepancies, activity levels or product importance may inform scope. Keep a plan so inconvenient locations are not continually omitted.

Do not assume this organisation automatically fulfils every formal inventory requirement. Determine the business's applicable obligations and documentation separately.

Close the differences found

A result needs investigation and ownership of further action. Recounting and adjusting alone do not explain why the record diverged.

For a warehouse manager, regular checking and removing causes matter. WMS can support ongoing or periodic control. Usefulness depends on consistent scope, movement control and follow-up, including whether earlier findings led to changes that prevented the same discrepancy from returning.
