Assets extend beyond a room list
Equipment can be with employees, under repair, in transit or at another branch. Before work starts, somebody needs responsibility for gathering information about these items and establishing their position.
Ownership matters too. A partner's device on company premises requires different investigation from company equipment found outside the expected list.
Clear boundaries help divide the work
Teams know which areas they cover and whom to contact about unusual cases. This reduces omissions in shared spaces and repeated counting of the same items.
Connecting locations with people who know the equipment helps teams obtain access and resolve identification questions. It supports the agreed counting and oversight arrangements rather than replacing them.
A better basis for comparison
Results can only be assessed against a defined scope and reference point. Formal methods and timing need to reflect the organisation's own requirements. Good preparation makes equipment visible that teams might otherwise overlook.
