Setting equipment aside and ending its history

Equipment awaiting assessment differs from an item whose final handling has been approved and completed. The distinction helps locate devices left in storage without a current custodian.

The decision's basis and financial treatment also matter. Operational records support the history of the process but do not independently determine those decisions.

Why confirm completion?

Approval to sell, transfer or otherwise deal with an item may precede its actual departure. Recording the recipient and supporting documents shows whether the action was completed.

Earlier history remains useful for subsequent questions and reviews. Closing a current assignment need not remove access to previous events.

A clearer picture of available equipment

Distinguishing equipment in use, set aside and retired improves planning. Items awaiting a decision do not appear to be ready resources, while their physical location remains known.
